Selecting the appropriate tools and materials is vital in preparing your walls for painting. In Newton, MA, we at JK Painting Service Corp recommend starting with high-quality brushes and rollers. These tools are essential for achieving a smooth, even coat of paint. We also suggest having a variety of brush sizes to handle different areas of your walls, from broad surfaces to tight corners.
In addition to brushes and rollers, the right cleaning supplies and repair materials are key. Gentle cleaning agents are necessary to remove surface grime without damaging the walls. For repairs, spackling compound or plaster can fill in holes or cracks. As a renowned painting contractor in Middlesex County, we understand the importance of using quality materials that last and perform well.
Lastly, remember safety equipment. Items like gloves, masks, and eye protection are essential, especially when sanding or using chemical cleaners. Safety is a priority at JK Painting Service Corp, and we ensure our team is well-equipped for every job. The process of wall preparation involves several crucial steps, each important in its own right. The first step is thorough cleaning. At JK Painting Service Corp in Newton, MA, we recommend using a soft sponge or cloth with mild detergent to wipe down your walls. This removes any accumulated dirt, grease, or cobwebs, creating a clean canvas for painting.
Once the walls are clean, the next step is to repair imperfections. In many homes and businesses in Middlesex County, walls often have small cracks, nail holes, or other minor damages. Filling these with a quality spackle or plaster is essential for a smooth, professional finish. Once dry, Sanding down these repairs ensures they’re flush with the wall surface. This step is crucial for avoiding visible blemishes after painting.
The final preparation step is priming. Applying a primer is especially important when covering dark colors or working on new drywall. It ensures better paint adhesion and a more uniform color. In Newton, MA, we at JK Painting Service Corp can guide you in choosing the right primer for your specific wall type and paint.
Newton was originally part of “the newe towne”, which was settled in 1630 and renamed Cambridge in 1638. The first English settlement of what is now Newton began in 1639. Roxbury minister John Eliot persuaded the Native American people of Nonantum, a sub-tribe of the Massachusett led by a sachem named Waban, to relocate to Natick in 1651, fearing that they would be exploited by colonists. Newton was incorporated as a separate town, known as Cambridge Village, on December 15, 1681, then renamed Newtown in 1691, and finally Newton in 1766. It became a city on January 5, 1874. Newton is known as The Garden City.
In Reflections in Bullough’s Pond, Newton historian Diana Muir describes the early industries that developed in the late 18th and early 19th centuries in a series of mills built to take advantage of the water power available at Newton Upper Falls and Newton Lower Falls. Snuff, chocolate, glue, paper and other products were produced in these small mills but, according to Muir, the water power available in Newton was not sufficient to turn Newton into a manufacturing city, although it was, beginning in 1902, the home of the Stanley Motor Carriage Company, the maker of the Stanley Steamer.
Newton, according to Muir, became one of America’s earliest commuter suburbs. The Boston and Worcester, one of America’s earliest railroads, reached West Newton in 1834. Wealthy Bostonian businessmen took advantage of the new commuting opportunity offered by the railroad, building gracious homes on erstwhile farmland of West Newton hill and on Commonwealth street. Muir points out that these early commuters needed sufficient wealth to employ a groom and keep horses, to drive them from their hilltop homes to the station.
